Live edge slabs for tables and builds

Live edge slabs highlight the natural contour of the tree and work best when grain, moisture, and flatness are understood upfront. Ask for measurements, moisture readings, and photos of both faces before you commit. For species references, the Wood Database is a helpful resource.

Check moisture content and drying history.
Inspect for end checks and internal stress.
Plan for flattening and finishing time.
Ask about matching slabs for table sets.

Quick live edge tips

Look for consistent grain and fewer knots.
Check the underside for twist or cup.
Expect bark to shed; plan to stabilize.
Confirm thickness before trimming.

Kiln load policy

We run large kiln loads only (2000 bd/ft minimum). Slabs must air-dry under cover for a few months before kiln scheduling. Wet slabs tie up the kiln longer, raise energy use, and increase checking, so they are accepted only at a premium when schedules allow.
