Oversized log only

On-site sawmill service

On-site milling is limited to oversized logs that cannot be moved. If you have standard logs, a local bandmill is typically the better option.

When on-site milling makes sense

Oversized logs often require on-site slab cutting with an Alaskan mill. Access, staging, and safety matter most. Call with photos and measurements so we can confirm feasibility. For standard portable milling, the Wood-Mizer Find a Local Sawyer directory can help.

Clear access for equipment and slab handling.
Large log diameter and length confirmed first.
Flat staging area for accurate cuts.
Call to plan slab thickness and yield.

Preparation tips for on-site slab cuts

Remove nails, fencing, and embedded metal.
Trim ends clean for stable slab faces.
Plan for slab storage and sticker stacks.
Keep logs shaded to slow surface checking.

Kiln load policy

We run large kiln loads only (2000 bd/ft minimum). Wood must air-dry under cover for a few months before kiln scheduling. Wet wood ties up the kiln longer, raises energy use, and increases checking, so it is accepted only at a premium when schedules allow.
