  • Call for oversized slab cutting and kiln loads.

How to choose a sawmill near you

A good sawmill match depends on log size, access, and the kind of lumber you need. For standard logs, a portable bandmill is usually ideal. For oversized slabs, an Alaskan mill is often the only option. The Wood-Mizer Find a Local Sawyer directory is a solid place to start.

Ask about max diameter, length, and access needs.
Confirm how they handle metal detection.
Discuss drying and storage before milling.
Request photos of similar finished work.

Kiln load policy

We run large kiln loads only (2000 bd/ft minimum). Wood must air-dry under cover for a few months before kiln scheduling. Wet wood ties up the kiln longer, raises energy use, and increases checking, so it is accepted only at a premium when schedules allow.
